Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival. It is the fifth day of the fifth month (May 5) in Chinese Lunar calendar. So sometime it is also called Chongwu, meaning double five. In 2008, the date of Duanwu is June 8.

Before the arrival of Low cost airlines, the travel market was relatively stagnant. However, all that has changed now there are numerous companies offering their customers the chance to fly to various locations around the world for a cut-back price.

The main reason they can offer this is due to their cost cutting strategies. They use the term “no-frills” because of the lack of extras to you get included in the price, such as no meals or drinks. Using secondary airports and having short turn around times means that low cost airlines can cut their overheads and offer cheap flights to destinations around the world. The arrival of low cost airlines saw an increase year on year and in 2007, according to Eurocontrol, flights within Europe reached an all time record of 10 million passengers which was a 5.3% increase on 2006 figures.

William Dalrymple, the Scottish Catholic adventurer, wrote in his book From the Holy Mountain about the modern remnants of Byzantium, the following:

“John Moschos did what the modern travel writer still does: he wandered the world in search of strange stories and remarkable travellers’ tales.”

Note that Dalrymple did not say that travellers go to discover new things, or places, or people. He sets the modern travel writer on a different plane, as one who adventures through human narrative by means of travel.

Years ago my father introduced me to a tradition that was able to bring peace into our relationship. My parents divorced when I was about ten years old and my Dad moved south, far away from me. We really didn’t speak often as my parents had one of those horrendous divorces. I probably saw him a half a dozen times before heading to college in Burlington, VT.

Needless to say, we did not have much in common and frankly, I kept myself slightly aloof from him as he left long ago…During college he began making attempts to be a part of my life. He would take me skiing with my boyfriend, send money finally and call more often.

Kakadu National Park is one of the most famous parks in the world. It is located in the Northern Territory of Australia and is about 200 kilometers (124 miles) east of Darwin. It was the 1986 movie “Crocodile Dundee” that brought the park into the forefront, and today it is very popular tourist destination.

The park is the ancestral land of a tribe of aborigines known as Gagjudju. In 1978, the tribe leased the land to the Australian National Parks and Wildlife Service. In 1979, the park became a National Park and now it also designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
