Travelling around Paris - how to get the most from your visit to the capital city of France.

You have lots of choice when it comes to travel around Paris. Bus, metro, taxi, water taxi, on foot … are all good and suitable options. But how do you get the most from your stay in this romantic and magical city?

One good way to see the city sights is to jump on a bus. Several of the city’s public transport bus routes take you around many of the major sightseeing destinations - often much more quickly than you could travel by other means. Bus number 20 is wheelchair accessible does a loop around the city centre. It leaves from Gare de Lyon and goes down the Grands Boulevards. Bus 24 follows the left bank of the Seine and stops regularly close to all the romantic famous spots along the banks. Even better is bus 29 which has an open platform at the back to allow better sight seeing options. It goes past the opera, to the Pompidou centre and then through the Marais district to the Bastille. Lastly, bus 73 runs past the Arc de Triomphe - travelling from La Defense to the Musee d’Orsay.

Many other bus journeys also offer great scenic and city travel options - grab a copy of a map or a Grand Plan from any metro station and spend ten minutes exploring the routes of the various buses. A cheap and fun way to explore the city in comfort.

If it’s sightseeing for you then you should also consider some of the normal metro routes. Not all are underground. The overground line on the southern route from Charles de Gaule Etoile to Nation will give you a good view of the Eiffel Tower and other important city centre buildings.

Exploring Paris can be great fun - and if you think out of the box a little you can explore the city in comfort and without great expense.
